RNZAF BASE AUCKLAND TARMAC LIGHTING UPGRADE

August 12 2020

The original Base Auckland tarmac lighting system was installed in the 60s and comprised a mixture of mercury vapour and low pressure sodium light fittings. The light output was poor, the colour rendering was problematic and the light fittings produced significant glare and light wash out onto the airfield. The new lighting system incorporates new LED light fittings installed onto the original columns and control systems at the base of the columns with new switch boards. The resulting benefit to the NZDF is reduced cost of running the tarmac lighting, reduced maintenance costs, reduced CO2 emissions, increased safety and vastly improved tarmac lighting (with no glare).
